An 85 year old veteran from Montana speaks his mind

I was perusing the Billings Gazette to see if there were any newsworthy items before the upcoming primary.  Michelle Obama said something I found entertaining:  http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/ 2008/06/02/news/local/16-obama.txt

"Don't trust bloggers or someone else's opinion, because people lie."

LOL.

But when I started reading the comments I came across this gem:

As an 85 year old MALE veteran from Montana - and ample time to research all the candidates voting records, speeches, debates - I have come to the following conclusion - trust the old we are a good judge of character if nothing else Attended speeches in Portland by both candidates and found Sen Obama to be a great orator - his words of HOPE and CHANGE brings the crowd to a screaming frenzy - and as I look around them - I am wondering what they are hearing that I do not - CHANGE - Washington DC politics - yet accepts the endorsements of them - and how - Sen Palmer of Illinois just came out with a description of his politics in Illinois - sounds to me like Washington DC - at the end of the day when trying to recall something from the rally - I came up with NOTHING - just words - and really our own words being used back to us. HOPE - his other key word - I would give that one to Hillary Clinton who attended a rally in New Orleans to give that city HOPE for reconstruction - even though they had voted for Obama - Obama was too busy with his campaign to attend - now is that something he plans on changing for everyone else?? And then we have the problem with the Pastors - after 20 years being unaware of his viewpoints??? I would not want someone in the White House that was not constantly being aware of Iran, Russia, China or N. Korea - and the associations with Ayers, Rezko, Wright and Pfleger that we know about - who next - Sen Clintons speech was warm, compassionate and genuine and had SOLID SOLUTIONS to all the problems brought forth to her from healthcare, family owned farms, student loans and the economy to name but just a few issues. Please my fellow citizens vote for the only experienced candidate with the fight, the vision, the plans and solutions and the ability to lead us forward - the only one that could defeat McCain in November - give her the popular vote so that she can go to the convention and fight for all of us - don't make this another 4 years of buyers remorse.

Yes, 85 year olds do sit down on keyboards.  My wife's grandmother was a computer fanatic.

What a comment.

Uhm... (1.75 / 4)

You perused a website until you found a comment posted on it, which is only semi-understandable, that endears to your hatred of Senator Obama?

Gosh, why not just quote Hillaryis44 and give us some of the gems from there?

Why is this a diary again?

Hooray for John McCain!

Could commenter be more obnoxious? (2.00 / 6)

This is a great LTE. Totally legitimate.

Is this the meme now? Anything positive about Clinton if from HI44?

Not even decent sarcasm to top it off! Just nastiness.

Sad that Obama supporters feel compelled to troll the boards here in total hypocrisy of their previous comments. What's the compulsion tonight? What's the point?

From now on, whenever I read a unity piece from this commenter, I'll link to this in response. Sad, really. Nothing but sad.

Re: Could commenter be more obnoxious? (2.00 / 2)

First of all, Bob, he's pointing to a comment on a website for a Montana newspaper. Seriously- why don't I just link from Kos and explain to everyone how the link came from a very reputable website, one that tracks frequently in the top 500 websites on the entire Internet for traffic, and since it castigates Clinton (rather than builds up Obama), it's obviously made by a very astute person, who is precisely who he says he was- you can't post things on the Internet that isn't true, right?

But I love your righteous indignation, it makes me feel giddy. Do carry on. :)

Poor old dude didn't even realize that he's typing from under the bus. Someone should tell him that's he part of the "old coalition".

Looks like unity is prolly...um...under the bus.

Sure hope there's cable tv under the bus.

Are you invited to the good-bye speech in NY tomorrow?

The advance staff gets either a ticket to NY or a ticket home. If they go to NY, they'll have to buy their own ticket home.

Thank you for posting this. Smart man.

Absolutely (2.00 / 1)

I also went searching and found a gentleman expounding on his position on a Clinton supporter very eloquently on a major electoral news website. His work is to be commended.

He is a very smart man, no doubt.

good for him for speaking his mind (2.00 / 8)

and not being afraid to do so.  Can't replace the personal experience this man brings to the decision--a long life he's got to have seen them all!  Thanks for finding this!  Good luck, HRC in SD and MT tomorrow!

Incoherent rant (none / 0)

Obama campaigned in New Orleans. Hillary didn't.

What the hell does attending TUCC have to do with understand China and North Korea? This is the most illogical argument I've read in a long time.

But if this bizarre post from a Montana comment section makes you feel good then, well, go ahead.

Such an obvious McCain troll (2.00 / 1)

this person's diaries are all anti-BO/DNC or pro-McCain.  Nothing praising Hillary.

Please ignore this thing.

Hm.

So a comment on a some blog gets posted an hour ago by some no-name anonymous poster claiming to be 85 ...

and 30 minutes later it's being pimped into a diary here?

Smells like....  someone is looking for McCain points!

Charming comments, just charming.  I guess "good-bye speech" is the unity talking point for tonight.

Great diary.  :)

The comments here by Obama supporters though - ugh - they are worthy of complete scorn.

Re: An 85 year old veteran from Montana speaks his (none / 0)

Complete scorn?
Go back and read the comments on the linked site.
I had actually cut and pasted a few for example..
then deleted them because I won't post racist stuff..
Go there..please and read for yourself...

The irony is even with the racist crap there, Sen. Obama is still going to take MT.

Re: An 85 year old veteran from Montana speaks (2.00 / 3)

It is ironic that the very culture and society from which Barack Obama comes as a child of an African man (and a wealthy, powerful one at that)-- STILL reveres and respects the words of their ELDERS. Hillary Clinton has not dismissed any group of voters as a class - she got it a long time ago when she wrote the book "It Takes A Village".

I think that there are many readers and commenters on this site that would be well served by heeding the words of a man who fought for his country and has spent the past fifty years observing the political scene. He isn't fooled for one minute.

Those who dismiss this gentlemen's words do so at great peril to their political future.

by pan230oh on Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 06:39:52 AM EST

Well to be fair ... (none / 0)

Her campaign surrogates did dismiss the "latte sipping ..." class. I for one am completely disgusted by such talk. Though I don't drink latte's, I do sometimes wear birkentocks when my achilles tendonitis acts up.

More seriously, while I think her troubles with the black community are more due to stupid gaffes than intent -- why tick off the most loyal of all dem voter demographics? -- the "elitist" thing was entirely intentional, intended to pander to poor whites at the expense of yet another loyal dem demographic (i.e., MINE). I will grant that Obama's gaffe in SF gave her the opening and that she was likely feeling a bit pressured to take it, but that does not excuse it. Condemning his comments is one thing, divisive pandering is something completely different.

I'm entitled to mine.

I am not persuaded by his, I'm afraid.
